Borno Gov donates Sambisa forest for RUGA


Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara, has donated some parts of the enclave of the Boko Haram, Sambisa forest, for the controversial Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) programme.

The governor also mobilised the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Agro Rangers and hunters to secure the large expanse of the forest and make it safe for the scheme.


The allocated area (forest) covers six council areas of Konduga, Bama, Gwoza, Chibok, Damboa and Askira/Uba.

The governor made the decision public last Monday when he hosted the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai El-Kanemi, who paid him Sallah homage.

He said the deployment of agro rangers, vigilantes and hunters are to protect farmers and herders in their respective communities.

Umara told the monarch that the state government would also deploy an Emergency Rapid Response Team (ERRT), comprising of security personnel, to protect commuters and rural dwellers against Boko Haram insurgents and bandits.

Senate may spend N5.5b on official cars for members

The leadership of the National Assembly has begun moves to procure operational vehicles for the lawmakers that make up its dual legislative chambers.


It was learned yesterday that meetings in that regard started among presiding officers in the Senate even before the apex legislative body embarked on its eight-week recess, which ends on September 24, 2019.

A National Assembly official confirmed the meetings on condition of anonymity, saying the cost of the cars would be deducted from lawmakers’ allowances.

He hinted that the preferred brand being considered for senators is Toyota Land Cruiser Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The Bukola Saraki-led Eighth Senate spent not less than N4 billion at that time to purchase the brand at a cost of N36 million. Two extra cars were also bought.

With the estimated current price of the vehicle now N50 million, the Senate might need about N5.550 billion to get enough quantity for its members, and two additional vehicles.

The chamber has always maintained that the cars are not for the luxury cravings of individual senators but to enhance the operations of committees.

Kirikiri prisons better than Indian hospital — El-Zakzaky

There was mild drama at the Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, India, yesterday, as leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, refused to be treated by those he described as unknown doctors deployed to treat them, saying they were different from those engaged for their treatment before they departed Nigeria.

El-Zakzaky, who spoke through an audio recording, also alleged that the condition at the Indian hospital he was taken to was worse than Kirikiri prisons.

The Shi’ites leader and his wife arrived in India last Tuesday for treatment, following the ruling of Kaduna State High Court.

This is even as his group, IMN, yesterday called on the Federal Government to allow the personal doctors of the El-Zakzakys to take over their medical care.

In the audio recording, El-Zakzaky accused the Federal Government of frustrating his medical treatment in India.

Taraba Killings: Slain Policeman lauded by Army for arresting killers of Colonel in 2016

A mild-drama ensued at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, as it was established that one of the policemen killed by soldiers in Taraba State after arresting a suspected millionaire kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, last week, got the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai, for assisting the Nigeria Army in June 2016.

This came on a day the families of the three operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, IRT, and a civilian killed in the attack, tasked the federal government to ensure justice was done in the issue.

Vanguard learnt that Inspector Edaile Mark, 36, was part of a team of Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, deployed to Kaduna State by the then Inspector -General of Police, Solomon Arase, to track and arrest killers of a serving officer of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Samaila Inusa, who was abducted in Kamazo area of Kaduna State.

His corpse was found two days later at Ajyaif community of Kaduna State.

#BBNaija: Embattled Khafi, Gedoni in another sex act

Another video has gone viral showing two Big Brother Naija housemates Khafi and Gedoni having sex for the third time since the commencement of the reality show some weeks ago.

Gedoni and Khafi first had sex in the house on July 20, and again on July 23.

They performed the act under the sheets as other housemates were dead asleep but this time around, Esther and Frodd watched them as the lovebirds moved their bodies in ecstasy under the duvet.

There are reports that Khafi who works with the UK Police might be sanctioned for not obtaining permission to feature in the show.
