The Senate Tuesday resolved to have Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President until President Umar Musa Yar'Adua returns from his medical trip abroad and is fit to return to his position.

The senate resolution Tuesday was the climax of intensive lobbying by both Pro-Jonathan Senators and the Pro-Yar'Adua group in the upper legislative House.

It would be recalled that the Governors Forum, the Arewa Consultative Forum and even the Information Minister Prof. Dora Akunyili, have all called for the official recognition of Jonathan Goodluck as acting President pending the full recovery of ailing President Yar'Adua who has been away for over 70 days on medical trip in Saudi Arabia. Details later...

Nigeria we hail thee, our own dear native land.... may the good Lord grant President Umaru Yar Adua quick recovery and return to his seat soon. The entire nation had waited long for the senate to act. At last they did, good action in good direction, but where do we go from here?

I suggest that the Senate should constitute a medical team from the NMA to visit our dear president and establish if he is still able to continue or not........then invoke the power of our constitution and do the right thing?

The resolve by the Senate to have Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, as the Acting President, is a ''rape'' on democracy & particularly on the 1999 Constitution. Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution, clearly & expressly provides the condition on which the Vice President can become the Acting President, anything outside the Constitution is illegal, null & void, & of no effect.
It therefore naturally & necessarily follows that the ''act'' of the National Assembly in declaring Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, the Acting President, is unconstitutional, & should be declared so by a Competent Court of Law.

To me, the senators have all had a filled day of looting alongside the ministers. They want to deceive us again by this decision. There should be a punishment for this disobedience to the constitution; why is no one making reference to that.

As far as I am concerned, the man should be impeached. He is a dead man already, How long are we going to wait for him to come back. We should not forget that the ministers have all been lying about the man's health.
