The Senate Tuesday resolved to have Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President until President Umar Musa Yar'Adua returns from his medical trip abroad and is fit to return to his position.

The senate resolution Tuesday was the climax of intensive lobbying by both Pro-Jonathan Senators and the Pro-Yar'Adua group in the upper legislative House.

It would be recalled that the Governors Forum, the Arewa Consultative Forum and even the Information Minister Prof. Dora Akunyili, have all called for the official recognition of Jonathan Goodluck as acting President pending the full recovery of ailing President Yar'Adua who has been away for over 70 days on medical trip in Saudi Arabia. Details later...

I received the news in an atmosphere of deep sober reflection, because the credibility of our political leaders at the national level whether elected, appointed or self-acclaimed was at the verge of volcanic tsunami; primarily because the level of distrust by Nigerians of our ‘leaders’ was at its highest ebb on the eve of the ‘ceremonial’ resolution by the two arms of the National Assembly. Of particular interest to me were the philosophical presentations with which Ag. President Jonathan Goodluck and Senate president, Senator David Mark justified the National Assembly’s resolution- 1st David Mark declared “the doctrine of necessity requires that we do what is necessary when faced with a situation that was not contemplated by the constitution. And that is precisely what we have done today”. On his part, the chief recipient of the exalted office and responsibility- Jonathan Goodluck declared- “the circumstances in which I find myself are uncommon”. Truly, the circumstance in which Nigeria finds herself politically is not peculiar, and it is one that provokes an uncommon response, guided by the principle of necessity. It’s my humble prayers that Nigeria’s constitution especially section 145 would be reviewed in such a manner that will resolutely deal with this type of conditions without any ambiguity whatsoever. I wish the Ag. President “an uncommon Will to manage Nigeria’s resources; and direct the affairs of Nigeria on the principle of democratic necessity”.

The emergence of President sorry (Vice) Jonathan Extra Ordinary Goodluck is a good omen in the polity of the nation. This is an evident that lie has expiring date but truth is constant. And this is the truth that has set us free from political tension.

Who should we thank for this "gesture"? The National Assembly or America, as the National Assembly didn't see it right to do until an Assistant Secretary of State from America visited us with a "message" from "Big Brother" America. Why did it take them so long in the first place? Those clowns at the Assembly are there for themselves and not for us. Let's prepare for them at the next elections.
