CREATIVE Coventry dad John Leahy entered a design competition wholesale halloween costumes at the 11th hour and came up trumps when he scooped the 1,000 first prize.
He was encouraged to enter the Belgrade Theatre special Halloween Costumes Outlet projects team's Make and Design competition (MAD UK), after bumping into a friend.
The 48-year-old, of Moat Avenue, Green Lane, dropped in to the theatre to pick up an application form to enter the competition - and went on to win first prize in the Wild Weather category.
John worked until late into the nights to finish his design - You'll Catch Your Death Out There.
Made up of a couple of layers, the costume consists of two cloaks. The first comprises weather symbols, including sunshine and clouds, while the second is adorned with a skull, symbolising death.
John, a father of two who works as a project manager in the business systems department at Coventry Building Society, said he was delighted to have won. "It was a real challenge, but it was also a real buzz," he said.
"And the most exciting thing was seeing the costume come together and being paraded up and down in the performance.
"It was an excellent experience. There were 30 finalists in my category and everyone got to know each other through MAD UK.
"We were all supporting each other through it. Although we were all in competition with each other, it didn't feel like it at all."
