My dear Frank,
I admire your confidence in Goodluck Jonathan, and I say that with absolute, unpretentious, honesty. However, I wish I could share your enthusiasm. But I don't, and, while politicians continue to deplete the socioeconomic store house of my country to feed their own depraved appetites, I never will. Jonathan may be relatively new in the political milieu, but he has quickly acquired the atrocious temperament of the political class. So he is, today, just as self-focused, just as unimaginative, as - and, because of his failure to deploy his huge academic status in conceiving a corrective, if not curative, ideological program for the country, a lot less productive than - the rest of the political class. He may be likely, or unlikely, to win Saturday's vote, but, whatever happens, I do not share the prevailing sentiment about his messianic qualities. I wish I did, and I hope - really do hope - I am wrong.
