It also clarified that US Secretary of State; Hillary Clinton did not refer to members of any faith as the perpetrators of the violence which claimed over 350 lives, mostly women and children.
A statement made available to THISDAY by the US Embassy in Abuja said the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Robin Renee Sanders welcomes the call by the National Assembly to look into the issue.
Sanders, in the statement, said her country was ready to work with Nigeria’s institutions to provide humanitarian aid for the victims of the crises.
“We welcome the announcement by the National Assembly and its calls to look into the issues and note the efforts by the police to bring to justice, in a transparent and rule of law manner, the perpetrators of the violence. We also plan to work with Nigerian Government institutions, and NGO entities to help respond to the humanitarian needs along with other donor partners.”
Sanders referred to US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s statement of March 8, 2010 where she had urged the Federal Government to seek constructive means to end the cycle of violence in the state. She however emphasized that Clinton did not make any reference to any religion in her remarks adding that she has been wrongly quoted as saying “bring the killers of Christians to Justice.”
