The amalgamation of 1914 was certainly not a political wedding. It was a unification done by Colonial Masters for their own selfish interest. Today the events that have followed the 'union' have clearly indicated that what is now Nigeria was not meant to be in the first place. We certainly would have fared better with separate indentities.
Mr. Ekpeme I am glad you are among the few Nigerians that think the way I do. I have siad it repeatedly that in as much as we would like to remain as one united Nigeria, it must be on the condition all ethnic groups respect one another, all religions must be practiced without let or hinderance and every Nigeria must have the right to live anywhere he or she chooses. No ethnic group or religion has the monopoly of violence. The Imams should do more to preach the words of Allah and not violence. This way, Nigeria can survive.

Thanks charlse for sharing your thoughts on this issue. Apparently, we are paying the price of a forced marraige. Innocent Nigerians are dying in different parts of this country today as result of the actions of religious and political extremist who think they are alone have the right to reside in a particular part of the country. Nigeria should get its act together and prevent further loss of lives. Theres so much ethno religiuos rivalry amongst us that leaves me to wonder whether we should remain under one Nigeria or split???.
It was definitely a WELDING that was not allowed to COOL naturaly and one thing about a WELDED JOINT that is FORCED TO COOL is that it has ''AIR BAGS'' and with time it breaks down. And most unfortunately there seem to be CONFUSION of REASONS on WHY and not the HOW the UNION was made and more CONFUSION of IDEAS on how to solve it but SADLY its hard to FIX a MOVING TRAIN......like the sign on the road: STOP! POLICE CHECK POINT.......We (the OLD and NEW GENERATION of Nigerians) need to ASK and ANSWER QUESTIONS of the PAST and CHART the COURSE for TOMORROW for there to be a NIGERIA of TOMORROW.
Unfortunately those who are better placed to ask such questions are all self seekers.

Uche, Sudan separated because those who spoke for the people of what is now South Sudan were selfless, committed and ready to sacrifice their lives for their people. Unfortunately our so called leaders are all benefitting from this welding arrangement and so can go to any lenght to ensure it does not disintegrate even at the expense of the people they claim to represent.

Few egg heads feel they own nigeria and as such, they can do anythng with impunity. By the look of things, they are right. Otherwise, why wil they hold the country hostage and the govt seems 2 be looking d other way? If a marriage is nt working, wont separation be d next step? Why is d situation different in d case of nigeria?
