I want to assume you are using a Windows operating system. There are potentially many reasons why the laptop could be slow. You may want to first cast your mind back to when you first noticed that it's slow and find out if you had installed some programs that might be the cause of the slowing down. (And you may want to rule out other causes by ensuring your system is devoid of viruses...and co.). If it's an installed program that's the cause then the decision to uninstall will depend on the utility value of such program. But if it has nothing to do with program installation then you may want to consider doing a system restore to a time when the system was satisfactorily 'fast'. This should handle any power-conservation setting that you might have employed.
Check your free hard disk space too, and in general do a clean up and see if there is improvement. But if you've already done all these you might want to consult with a system technician/engineer to solve the problem.
Contact a computer engineer.

All the best.
My own little suggestion is this, check your hard disk space, it can also be caused by a programme, processor problem can also lead to that. when u check all these and all are in good condition then format the system, with a different operating system, if the thing continues then u have to change ur morder board.
