Self esteem refers to an individual overall positive evaluation of him or her. High self-esteem consists of an individual respecting him/herself and considering him/herself worthy. Self-esteem is also an individual’s perception or subjective appraisal of one’s own self-worth, one’s feelings of self-respect and self-confidence and the extent to which the individual holds positive or negative views about self. It’s hard for someone who doesn't already have it to know what it would be like to have it. One way for people who have lower self-esteem to begin to appreciate what it would be like to have higher self-esteem is to consider how they may feel about things in their lives that they value. Therefore, it is important to know your worth and know who you are. When you understand who you are and place value on yourself, you will have so much confidence in yourself because it is how you treat and see yourself, that is how people see you and value you. It is important that you exhibit some habits that show you have a high self esteem. No one can give you confidence or place value on you, you alone can boost your confidence and make people see you the way you want to be seen.  When you have a low self esteem, you may never get to achieve what you want to achieve because you believe you are not capable or have what it takes to achieve them.

Self-esteem refers to a person's beliefs about his/her worth and value. It also has to do with the feelings people experience that follows from their sense of worthiness or unworthiness. Self-esteem is important because it heavily influences people's choices and decisions. In other words, self-esteem serves a motivational function by making it more or less likely that people will take care of themselves and explore their full potential. Self-esteem is also defined as a global barometer of self-evaluation involving cognitive appraisals about general self-worth and affective experiences of the self that are linked to these global appraisals. Therefore, people with high self-esteem are also people who are motivated to take care of themselves and to persistently strive towards the fulfillment of personal goals and aspirations. People with lower self-esteem don't tend to regard themselves as worthy of happy outcomes or capable of achieving them and so tend to let important things slide and to be less persistent and resilient in terms of overcoming adversity. They may have the same kinds of goals as people with higher self-esteem, but they are generally less motivated to pursue them to their conclusion.

One psychological habit to boost your self esteem is to learn to keep your promises to yourself. This is one habit that is difficult for people to do. People tend to let out their promises to people or to themselves to others. When you let out your promises, it compels you by all means to fulfill them and when you don’t, it lowers your self confidence and esteem as you may never have the courage to promise anyone anything anymore.

However, when you keep your promises to yourself it has a way of boosting your self esteem because whether or not you fulfill those promises, your self esteem and confidence is intact.

Another point to note on psychological habit to boost yourself esteem is to surround yourself with people you enjoy. Try as much as possible to avoid the company of those who always bring you down and make mockery of you in one way or the other. Also avoid the company of those, who think you do not have the potential or ability to achieve certain things in life. Rather make sure you surround yourself with forms and people who motivate, encourage, and bring out the best in you. More so, surround yourself with people who belief in you and those who motivate you as well. When you have these set of people around you, it boost your self esteem and confidence.

It is important that you remind yourself of your values. This is one way to boost your self esteem. Place value on yourself and people will see you that way. Remember that the way you carry yourself is the same way people will see you. You must understand that you are valued and you are loved. Do not allow anything or anyone talk you down or make you see less of whom you are or should be. Always carry it in mind that you are valued and you are loved and you have the ability to achieve anything you want to achieve and nothing can stop you. The consciousness of this will make you a better version of yourself and people will have no choice than to believe in you and in your ability as well as value you.

Another to point is to read some undergraduate projects on self esteem. There is a saying that if you are not informed you are deformed. Information is power. You must be abreast at all times with things happening around your environment and the world at large. Inculcate the habit of reading. Read to know and to be informed. One of the books or research work to read is on self esteem it will help you know how to boost your self esteem and improve your self confidence.

Believing in yourself is another important point to note. Understand that no one will believe in you if you don’t first believe in yourself. Self believe is an attribute of self esteem. Self believe will take you far in life. Because even when people around you seem to discourage you or be discouraged, your-self believe will see you through. Self believe is also the absence of fear. It boosts your self esteem.

In conclusion, self esteem is very important if one must go far and achieve things in life. You must understand who you are and what you can do. Understand that you are valued and loved. Allow no one talk you down or make you feel less of yourself. Self-esteem is a person’s overall sense of his or her value or worth. It can be considered a sort of measure of how much a person “values, approves of, appreciates, prizes, or likes him or herself”.

Guard your self esteem jealously by also avoiding the company of those who you do not enjoy or make you feel less of yourself as well as those who do not believe in you. Do all you can to boost your self esteem regardless of what anyone thinks of you.
