As the North Boils the Battle for Next Senate Presidency Begins

As the 2011 poll enters the concluding stage, the battle for the President of the Senate has started with the incumbent holder, Senator David Mark initiating a lobbying process.

The new Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives may emerge on June 2.

But the Peoples Democratic Party will soon meet after the general elections to come out with a power zoning formula agreeable to all the six geo-political zones.

A top source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The major zones angling for the Senate presidency are the South -East, the North-Central, the North-East and the South-West.

“So far, apart from the President of the Senate, Chief David Mark, those being tipped are the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, Governors Danjuma Goje (Gombe) and Bukola Saraki (Kwara), ex-Governor Adamu Abdullahi.

“The North-East is more passionate about the Senate Presidency than any other zone. But some North-Central leaders are not ready to part with the office. They are insisting on retention of the slot with preference for Senator David Mark.

“And given the fact that the North-Central had been more solid in backing President Goodluck Jonathan during the April 16 presidential poll, it might be a pay-back time for the zone.....

The north should think of how to seek the forgiveness of the country for the horror they dished out to it, just because a person from the south won a free and fair election. The north as far as i am concerned has lost its political clout in nigeria, and it will take some time for it to find its political footing. The south east is more likely to get the office of the senate president, while any section of the north may get the speaker of the House. Thats my take on this issue. Thank you
The office is for the southeast. May be Akunyili...if she wins.
What difference does it make whoever will emerge is already known, the country must move forward, what we want is that it should be somebody with credible credentials who will compliment GEJ's transformation stride
