The quest for affordable education is taking a turn for the worse as Universities have started exploiting candidates for its post-UTME exams.
With the recent lowering of cut off mark to 120 by JAMB, some institutions are expecting to generate millions from candidates seeking admission.
One of such institutions is the Akwa Ibom State University where candidates are to pay 10,500 as PUTME Screening Fees for the 2017/2018 Admission year.
A social media user who is seeking admission after scoring 260 in the JAMB UME (exams) shared his invoice for the amount to be paid.
Other users were left in shook and disbelieved as one wondered if “person no go go school again”.
It can be recalled that the Federal Government in 2016 fixed the screening fees at N2,500 but schools have been defying the directives for instance Delta State University who were the first for the 2017/2018 session to peg the fee at N5,000.
The method to circumvent the directives as seen on the invoice is to charge the “Screening Exercise Fees” at FG approved N2,500, then charge N7,500 as Admin charges.
