I agree. Nigeria needs leaders who have clear idea of the critical needs of the people and the nation. This necessarily should be backed up with policy documents. As the incumbent President, with his retinue of advisers and consultants, this should have given him a clear advantage. His promises don't reflect this advantage at all. He only tells his audience what appeals to their fancy.
Okiemute, the issue isn't that our political leaders need advisers and consultants to direct them about what the people need. That was never intended or mentioned in my submission. The issue is this: government pronouncements should be informed by a well thought-out plan/policy. This would have addressed such issues as the feasibility of a project, the financial requirements, socio-economic implications of the project, the anticipated risks and mitigants, etc. This is where the President has an advantage over his opponents who don't have access to a massive array of experts and professionals. Mere pronouncements don't constitute policies.
The concern is that the right thing needs to be done. Nigerians shouldn't be taken for a ride again. We need leaders who understand the issues and are ready to work. Not those who would only make promises that may seem far-fetched, particulaly when such promises are becoming incresingly 'bogus' as Charles observed. Afterall, who no like better thing? Not every critical mind is a bad belle.
