Government of national unity has its merits and demerits.  It less tension in the polity but the opposition parties will definitely become a toothless bull dog, because they will have compromised their function as  political watch dogs.

In a proper democratic setting,a coalition government does not take away the identity of individual parties.They will compromise in some areas but still stay as separate parties.Next election,every party stands on his own.UK have a Coalition government,2 parties struck a deal that made David Cameron the prime minister.It helps to make the government strong and not in danger of crumbling.

good question. the answer lies in the propoer re-education of our politicians. when politicians, not just those of the pdp fold, understand that power should only be captured for the general good then they would less readily jump ship but stand by their party ideologies. their is nothing bad in making one or two compromises for the general good but there is everything evil in trading away your stand for selfish pecuniary interests.

Chris you are right, but my fear is that Nigerian politicians are not selfless.  Those of them clamouring for coalltion are only doing so because they see it as a means of bank rolling their campaign expenses and not for the interest of the masses.

Bro,that's true,only when the system is clean can we trust these politicians.
