ENUGU - THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has won all the three Senatorial and eight House of Representatives seats in the National Assembly elections conducted in Enugu State on Saturday.
By this result, former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his bid to retain his seat as the senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District on the platform of People for Democratic Change, PDC, which the Ebeano political family adopted for the 2011 elections.
The landslide victory of the ruling PDP in the state has confirmed the supremacy of Governor PDP sweeps N-Assembly polls in EnuguBY Tony EdikeSullivan Chime’s political structure over the opposition parties which had mounted serious campaigns to wrest power from the PDP.
The governor’s political camp went into wild celebration shortly after the National Assembly election results were released on Sunday with some of the party stalwarts, saying the remaining elections, especially the governorship and State Assembly slated for April 26 would be an easy contest.
The Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Chief Ayogu Eze, defeated their rivals with a wide margin to emerge Senators-elect for Enugu West and Enugu North.
On his part, the member representing Enugu East/Isiuzo Federal Constituency, Hon. Gilbert Nnaji snatched the Enugu East senatorial seat from Senator Nnamani, who has served only a term.
