The National Universities Commission (NUC) laid down guidelines to guide the part-time programmes in Nigerian universities.

In pursuant to it statutory mandate of ensuring orderly development of Nigerian versities, the NUC have observed that the way and manner Nigerian Universities run Part-tme programmes are inimical to the entrenchment of quality in the system.

To ensure that quality is not compromised in the running of Part-time programmes, the commission has laid down guidelines to guide the part-time programmes in Nigerian Universities. The guideline are such that; the enrolment of part time must not exceed 20% of regular studets enrolment; Part time programmes must not be run outside the university where the human and materials resources for the teaching of the programmes are domiciled; and that all admission to Nigerian Universities must be through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

In view of the foregoing, the NUC has placed a moratorium on admission of students on part-time programmes in Nigerian Universities to sanitise and rectify the observed anomalies.

The management, NUC advised the Nigerian Universities, in view of this development to ; Ensure full disclosure of their part-time programmes with respect to enrolment and staffing within 4 weeks, counting from Thursday, March 15, 2012 and conduct an in-house and student audit, as the outcome of the staff and student audit will be verified in situ by the commission soon.
