Lagos State University (LASU) is to organize “LASU Champions League”( season 2), the league uses to be “LASUSU Champions League”. The championship is powered by Campus Sport Initiative(CSI), in collaboration with Lagos State University Students' Union(LASUSU).


The champions league is a Football Competition which is scheduled to hold her season 2 in June was established last year, 2011, witnessing GEOGRAPHY Department of Faculty Of Social-Science Win the CUP against PHYSICS Department of Faculty Of Science in the Finals of the Competition .


The sport director, Badru Abdul-baqi said the competition is described as one to determine the best football team of the year. He stated that Winners and Runner-Ups Of Dean's Cup of each faculty; Art, Education, Engineering, Management Sciences, college of medicine, Law, Mass Communication, Sciences, Social-Science, school of Transport will come together to Compete for the number one position in the University as the Best Football team in LASU.


Defending Champion, GEOGRAPHY automatically qualifies to the Finals along side Winners of each Dean's CUP, amounting to 11. The Runners Up (10 teams) of each Faculty play a playoff knock-out game, where only 5 will qualify and join the Remaining 11 finalist to make 16 in the Finals.


Abdul-Baqi gave the break down of the competition as follows; The 16 Teams play a knockout stage and just 8 teams qualify to the Quarter-finals. The 8 Teams which Qualifies to the Quarter-final will pick a slot in representing 8 European Clubs ( Chelsea, Bayern-munich, Manchester united, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan & inter Milan). The 8 Teams shall play the quarter Finals wearing the Jersey of the Club they are Representing, competing for the GRAND PRIZE and lifting the CUP as LASU CHAMPIONS. As well known from the Regular Champions League, there is only One WINNER, Second goes home with Medals and no third place.

Explaining accreditation process, LASU Sport Director said: “Each Faculty SPORT DIRECTORS should submit the names of the Winners and Runners Up of the last Deans Cup along side the list of their team's players with a copy each of their Course-form 2011/2012 Section. Only 16 Players from the department inclusive of 3 other players not from the same department but from the faculty. Accreditation will be strictly scrutinized and screened”.


Abdul-Baqi urged the sport director of each faculty that the team List should be Submitted on or before June 10, 2012, failure to do so means the Faculty will not be represented. He also pointed out that the only reason for a team to be disqualified is the inclusion of a machinery who has not satisfied the conditions given in the accreditation segment.


According to him, an Award shall be given to the Team with the Largest and most Entertaining SUPPORTERS CLUB, who could win an acknowledgment of becoming LASU SUPPORTERS CLUB and representing TEAM LASU in External competitions.
