Uttarakhand is a beautiful hilly state located in the north of India, It is spread over the foothills of the great Himalaya. Uttarakhand state is divided into two parts surely known as Kumaon and Garhwal. Uttarakhand has 13 districts and Dehradun is the capital district of Uttarakhand which lies in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. In the above map of Uttarakhand, a red line separates both regions. The upper part is known as Garhwal region which is having 7 districts of Uttarakhand and the lower part is known as Kumaon which is having 6 districts of Uttarakhand.
Kumaon Districts: Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar
Garhwal Districts: Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Uttarkashi
How to reach Uttarakhand from Kolkata?
Uttarakhand is a well-developed tourism state having bus, train, and air transport facilities, Kolkata is about 1600 km from Uttarakhand, below are some ways to get in Uttarakhand from Kolkata.
1- Self Drive by your own vehicle
If you drive 400 km every day and take a halt at every 400 km then it takes 4 days to reach in Uttarakhand, so it is not a good idea and very risky too.
2- By Train
Trains are a well connected and very easy, cheaper and safe way to travel the cities within India. If you are willing to explore the Kumaon region you can search a train for Kathgodam, Lalkuan or Ramnagar station and if you are willing to explore the Garhwal part then you can search a train up to Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun. These are the gateways of Uttarakhand.
3- Flights for Uttarakhand from Kolkata
Uttarakhand has two major domestic airports namely Pantnagar airport and Jolly Grant airport. Pantnagar airport is located in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand near Rudrapur city and Jolly Grant airport is located in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand near Dehradun city.
