CONQUERING THE WORLD WITH YOUR MIND POWER

The mysteries surrounding certain behaviours or performances in our lives have long defied logical explanations. Questions like; why do I fail where others are recording success? Why are things not working out like I want it to? Are questions that definitely churn our minds everyday as we face the vicissitudes of life. The effectiveness and productivity of humans are shaped by several factors. One of these determinants is the sacred place called The Mind”. This psychological place, as ignorantly abused by humans, holds the key to living a life of fulfillment.

The concept of mind is multifaceted; but for simplification and in line with the topic of discussion, the mind can be defined as an abstract concept used to characterize thoughts, feelings, subjective states, and self-awareness that presumably arise from the brain.

The mind is a powerful tool which can make heaven or hell out of an individual existence. Harboring negative thoughts in it, one way or the other affects the outcome of our daily activities. If you see yourself as a failure, the possibility is high that you’ll turn out to be one. Same analysis applies when you see yourself as a success; you might turn out to be the biggest thing that ever happened to the universe. “By thought Man either blesses or curses himself.”

                      NEGATIVE THOUGHT AND IT’S EFFECT

“Believing in negative thoughts is the single greatest obstruction to success.”
― Charles F. Glassman

Vagaries of life, no doubt, are the greatest injector of negative thoughts in our minds. Fear of the unknown and of failure has continually haunted the human mind since time immemorial. But it’s completely normal and most of us would have experienced them at some point in time in our lives. If properly used, negative thoughts could help us prepare for the worse while hoping for the best. But in the hands of an emotional volatile person, it is like a potent volcano ready to destroy everything worked for with its eruption of fear, procrastination, anxiety, loneliness, anger, depression and other kind of feelings that drain the effectiveness and productivity in our lives.

Negative thoughts are the images, words, perception and thinking we conceive in our minds that shapes our lives towards the path of negativity. Such thoughts invariably lead to anxiety, anger or depressed feelings, and cause us to disappoint people and even lose friendships.

These repetitive thoughts that focus on the negative, often make us believe the world is a dark scary place with little room for sunshine and happiness. It also sometimes make you believe things will never change, that you are destined for misery and that being alive may not worth it.

Negative thoughts are associated with words like; I can’t do it, I will fail, they won’t accept me, nobody loves me, etc. the outcomes of words like these lead to pure negative vibes that suppress the energy drive needed for the fulfillment of specific goals in our lives. As written in the Book of Proverb 4:23 of the Christian Bible, it is said that; “Be careful how you think, your life is patterned according to your thoughts”.

While it is only normal our mind strolls down the stair of negativity, it is important to note that what you say to yourself conquers all!

HOW POSITIVE THOUGHTS CAN HELP YOU!

Think Positive!

Ever wonder what is the drive of some of the World’s most successful people?

Search no further, it is Positive thinking!

Arnold Schwarzenegger, when asked how he went from being an immigrant who knows very little English to being famous athlete, movie star and politician? He replied; “When I was young I visualized myself being and having what it was I wanted. The mind is really incredible.”

Now that brings us to the big question, what is Positive thinking?

Positive thinking is a state of mind that envisions and expects favorable results. It is the willingness to try doing new things. In other words, it is the belief that everything will turn out fine against all odds. Positive thinking means positive attitude. It is a mental attitude that sees the good and the accomplishments in your life, rather than the negative and the failures. It is a psychological programming that focuses on the bright side of life. It is a mindset that uses the words, “I can”, and “it is possible.

Positive thinkers are the go getters who don’t let the tumultuous waves of life drown their happiness. They are good users of introspection in identifying their flaws. After identification, they don’t relent to their weakness; they face their fears like a wounded lion and create a better version of themselves. They are the champs of the world, they are the Wiz kids, Barrack Obama, Serena Williams, Anthony Joshua, Messi, J.k Rowlings, Chimanmanda Adichie, and every other great personality that held the universe spellbound with their unique talents.

The good news about human nature is that, we are subject to change. Like a Computer programmer, we can reprogramme deficiencies in our lives into efficacies. If you are scared of speaking in public, the only solution is to grab the bull by the horn and start speaking. Your writing skill is poor?, I have good news for you, the only solution to being a punchy & catchy Writer like Achebe is to put that pen on a paper now. The difference between the dreamer and the realist is “Who actually wrote!”.

No one ever achieved greatness by brooding and ruminating over flaws, failures, deficiencies or weaknesses. Likewise, no one ever became successful by being an unrealistic optimist; who says “he can” and “he will” while he lazes around all day. Those who achieved greatness are those who demanded for it__ with their mindset, determination and hardwork!

Its either you face your fears now, or you hide and run in fears forever. Unfortunately, fears are fast runners; they will always catch up with you and devour you in the least expected way. It is advised you take on your fears now or you freeze to death like the caveman who died because he was afraid to start a fire. The first step in facing your fears and achieving greatness is to master the art and science of “Positive thinking”.

Below are some useful tips in building a positive mindset, practice it and enjoy a life full of positivity!

  • Use Positive Affirmations: While negative affirmations kill our vibes, positive affirmations on the other hand, gives us emotional support and encouragement needed to turn dreams into reality. Positive affirmations are extremely powerful. Why? Because your mindsets are like detonators for your reality; what you think, you become. Examples of positive affirmations are; “I can be anything I want to be, as long as I work towards it”, “Greatness is mine”, etc
  • Always Accept Reality: Life has never been known to be a bed of roses. The journey of life is a bumpy ride with so many ups and downs. When life throws challenges that brings you down, always be interested in bouncing back up. It doesn’t matter where you fall, what matters is whether you were able to get back up or not. Own your mistakes, flaws, and weaknesses, use it as a guide in preparing yourself for a better tomorrow.
  • Practice Visualization: When anxiety, fright or the fear of failure comes knocking, the escape route for keeping your state of mind balanced and healthy is visualization. This is a subconscious process of seeing yourself through your mind’s eye doing and achieving the success you intend to achieve in a given task.
  • Always wear a Smile: Why frown or look sad when it causes wrinkles to your beautiful skin and makes you age faster? Frowning requires more muscles but still add more dark clouds to your sunshine. Smiling on the other hand, calm your nerves and help you in making the right decisions in times dilemma, conflicts or disappointment. Smile and the world smiles with you. Things will definitely become nicer and friendlier, if only you could go about your activities with that glorious smile every day.
