The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa has been commended for his poised mission towards repositioning the University for excellence.
The chairman, Conference of Alumni Association of Nigerian Universities (CAANU), Chief Richard Oma Ahonarugo gave the commendation and remarks when he paid the VC a visit on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the senate chamber, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Chief Ahonarugo remarked that the objectives of the body include a common platform to solve the problems of Nigerian Universities, a forum to assist Alumni members associations, promote the well being of Nigerian graduates and seek alternative sources of funding for Nigerian Universities. He said that the body was already in consultation with the Federal Government, State Governments as well as Nigerian Universities to work out modalities for a smooth academic session.
"CAANU ha also held talks with the representatives of the Federal Government on the need for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to be remodeled to be in tune with the modern realities and this has started yielding positive results". He applauded the appointment of the Vice Chancellor and called on members of the staff and students to give Professor Obafunwa all the necessary support. He equally praised the former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jankande for the vision of establishing LASU many years ago.
Responding to the commendation, Prof. John Obafunwa thaked CAANU for paying him the courtesy visit and choosing LASU as the host of the quarterly conference. The VC believed that in four years, his administration would have achieved a lot in the Versity. "We hope to leave this place (LASU) better than we met it. With CAANU, there are several things I believe we can do together. We shall continue to interact and in the end we would have a good story to tell" he added.
