ABAKALIKI - THE election into Ebonyi South and Central senatorial zones, including five Houses of Representatives positions, which took place last Saturday in the state, took an uncommon dimension as the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, House of Representatives’ candidate for Ishielu/Ezza North, Engr. Peter Ede, won at the polls after defeating other political parties in a close tie.
According to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the constituency headquarters, ANPP scored 28,123, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 19,517, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, 2,867, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, 1,370, while
National Solidarity Democratic Party, NSDP, scored 1,526 votes.
For Ebonyi South senatorial district, Chief Sonny Ogbuoji of PDP was declared winner after scoring 65,752 votes to defeat other parties in the zone; ANPP scored 16,501, APGA 4,218, ACN 11,602, NSDP 987, PPA 860, Peoples Redemption Party, PRP 313 votes, while the results for Ebonyi Central was still being collated at the time of filing this report.
Also, for the House of Representatives elections in Afikpo North/ South Federal constituency, the PDP candidate, Christopher Omo Isu, in the area, won the election with 32,154 votes, while ANPP had 7,234 , ACN 3,782, APGA 2,481, Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, 316, NSDP, 326 votes, and PPA 468 votes.
In the same vein, the PDP House of Representatives’ candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi federal constituency, Mr. Sylvester Ogbaga, also won the election.
Announcing the result at Nkaliki, the Returning Officer of the constituency, Dr. Achilike Beatrice, said Mr. Ogbaga scored a total of 45,559 votes to defeat seven other candidates.
