THE political influence of the controversial Ibadan politician, Late Chief Lamidi Adedibu may have died with him as his son, Senator Kamardeen Adedibu was defeated by Chief Olufemi Lanlehin who contested on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria.
While announcing the result of the Oyo Senatorial District which was keenly contested, the Returning Officer, Prof. Bayo Okunade said Lanlehin scored 127,691 votes closely followed by the candidate of the Accord Party,Mr. Bayo Lawal who polled 118,256 votes and Adedibu came third with 92,359 votes.
In the remaining two senatorial districts of Oyo Central and Oyo North, Chief Jumoke Akinjide,the daughter of the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Chief Richard Akinjide(SAN) also lost to Hon. Ayo Adeseun who also contested on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria.
Adeseun, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, had 105,975 votes while Accord Party came second with 92,544 votes.
The remaining senatorial seat-Oyo North which was won by Mr. Hosea Agboola, who represented the PDP was controversial as other party agents except the PDP refused to sign the result sheets.
In the House of Representatives election, PDP won five seats, ACN four seats and Accord Party won four seats.
The remaining seat, Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West is to hold on April 26 2011.
ACN won in Ibadan North with 30, 035 votes, Accord Party, 24, 519 votes and PDP had13, 412 votes. Its candidate is Mr. Abiodun Awoleye.
It also won in Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West with Mr. Kamil Akinlabi who defected from the PDP and also in Ibarapa East/Ido with Mr. Sunday Adepoju and , Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa with Mr. Kola Olabiyi.
PDP won the following constituencies Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo, Ogo Oluwa/ Surulere,Atisbo/Saki West/Saki East, Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North, and Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Ooriire Federal Constituencies.
Accord Party took many by surprise as it won Oluyole, Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East, Akinyele/Lagelu, and Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituencies. Its candidate, Mr. Murtala Kayode scored 18,888 votes, ACN 17,47 and PDP 16,498 votes.
