Two days after the spat between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and Fatima, the daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cousin, Mamman Daura, came to the public domain, the President on Wednesday approved the appointment of six new aides for his wife.
The appointment which takes immediate effect was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the First Lady’s Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna.
The newly appointed aides are – Dr. Mairo Almakura (Special Assistant, African First Ladies Peace Mission); Muhammed Albishir (Special Assistant, Organisation of African First Ladies for Development); Wole Aboderin (Special Assistant, Non-Governmental Organisations) and Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi (Special Assistant on Media and Publicity).
Others are – Zainab Kazeem (Special Assistant, Domestic and Social Events) and Funke Adesiyan (Personal Assistant, Domestic and Social Events).
Mrs. Buhari expressed appreciation to the President for the appointment of the aides who would assist in carrying out various assignments.
The President’s wife expressed her feelings on Wednesday when she received wives of governors who visited her at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo; wife of the Senate President, Maryam Ahmed Lawan; and wife of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Salamatu Gbajabiamila were also at the gathering. She also apologised to her children, immediate family members and Nigerians over the embarrassment that an online video had caused.
She pledged to construct a regional secretariat for the African First Ladies Peace Mission.
The AFLPM, which was established after the Beijing Conference of 1995, has been in the custody of Nigeria, with leadership rotating among African First Ladies.
