The reasons are not far fetched.  1) Lack of seriousness on the part of the students.  A lot of students who present themselves for the SSCE exams do not prepare very well.  They spend their time watching movies and fiddling with their phones instead of studying their books. 2) Our school system has suffered serious neglect from government so much so that a lot equipment that students need for their academic work are not available.  Most school environments do not encourage teaching and learning.  The neglect of teachers is also another factor.  The teaching profession has been relegated to the back ground to the extent that teachers are owed salaries for many months.  Many of them therefore try to engage in some other activities to make ends meet.  This affects teaching and learning because they will divide their time  between their private business and their official responsibilities.  Lack of dedication on the part of teachers is also a causative factor. Many teachers do not take their jobs seriously even when they are well equipped for their job.  Finally parents are also part of the cause because many of them encourage their children/wards to engage in malpractice.  Some even sponsor mercenaries to write exams for their children.  These and many more are some of the factors responsible for the poor performance of students in the exams, the last SSCE inclusive.
tanks bro charles you hv jxt gv me what i wanted, bt above all what is the major cause
Two things are reponsible:  1) Learning habit of students.  Many want good results but they are not prepared to bend down to serious studies.  2) Poor funding of schools including neglect of the teaching profession.
