This seems like a new law introduce to us by white men. They call it different names like; child abuse, molestation; right denial and host of others. The big question is should we stop punishment for our children's wrongdoing in other not to fall victim of white man's law or should we continue punishing them to right their wrong? I need your opinions,

We will guide and discipline them.
The biblical injunction is clear: Spear the rod and spoil the child.  But caution should be the watchword in the application of the rod so that you don't abuse the child's right.
At the age of 7, a growing child has already chosen the path to take in life, this will manifest itself later on when the said child has become an adult, so, it is safe to discipline a child when he/she is still very young and impressionable. In other words, discipline your children regardless of western lifestyles.
A child that is left to his whims and caprices grows up to become a problem to the society.  However parents should be guided by their senses even as they discipline their children.
"Spare the rod and spoil the child" should not be seen as a justification for spanking your kids. The goal of spanking is to cause the child to voluntarily surrender his will. It is to impress upon the child the severity of his disobedience. It takes time and thoughtfulness for the child to come to repentance. So if you must use the rod use it with love not with brute that will cause bodily harm.
If you did not train your child when he's still in childhood stage, when he/she grows; he will train you, period.
Efe, I agree no less with you.  We should administer the rod with love and it should serve as a corrective measure and not just for the joy of spanking.  Head or tail, he is still your child.

He who fails to train the child is not worthy of parenthood.

Dont you think talking to and correcting  the child constantly and consistently will be more effective than the rod thing? I do not think it was the rod my dad used that corrected me, but words from him.The power of the mouth is very very effective.God used it and there was light.Another thing we parents must take into cognizance is living and teaching by example. You can not tell your child that smoking is bad when he/she sees you smoking. Also when you tell lies in front of your kids, you cannot stop them to tell lies with your so called rod.Thats it.

I agree with you, Charles, but in some cases, you have no option than to use the cane.  So two of them work together to achieve the purpose of correcting a child.

Using the rod on a child depends on the type of child. If it is a child that takes your corrections by mouth for granted go ahead after all even the bible says use your right hand to discipline the child and your left to draw the child closer .but use it as a tool for correction not for enjoyment.

Even the bible made it clear dt he that spareth the rod hateth his child,so we must flog our children when they do wrong b/cos it is d only way to correct a child whenever he/she does anything foolish.
