What is Security?

Security is the protection of a person, property or organization from an attack. There are people who have distorted motivations to perform such attacks. The types of protection include prevention, response and pre-emptive attacks. Types of attacks People, property or organizations may be attacked by the criminally minded. Security is necessary to protect from such attacks. Attack on person Physical attacks are efforts to injury or even kill a person. Other types personal attacks can also be attempts to injure or hurt someone emotionally or financially. Sometimes there is even an attack to destroy a person's reputation. Attack on property Someone may try to damage or destroy property, such as a building. Theft is also considered a property attack. Attack on organization Groups or individuals may wish to damage, undermine or destroy an organization, such as a company or even a government. Attacks may involve sabotage, creating unrest among the people, damaging property or even killing leaders. To some extent, business competition may include attacking another company's ability to make a profit. Terrorists try to destroy a government or society through damaging property or randomly killing or injuring people. Reasons for attacks Reasons for such an attack may be for revenge, financial gain, political or religious motives, for thrills, or to avoid getting caught. Revenge A person may attack another person or damage property as a way to seek revenge. This may be an effort to hurt a spouse, because of divorce proceedings, or it may be a worker who was fired, trying to get back at the company or his boss. Money Criminals will attack other people, break into a building, or do other damage for the sake of financial gain. Some companies may try to gain business at the expense of a competitor by using underhanded methods. Political Some individuals, groups and countries may want to attack property or people that have opposing political or even religious views. It is their effort to advance their viewpoint by the means of violence. Thrills There are people-often-teenaged boys--who will damage property or harm people for the sake of the thrill. Avoid getting caught Sometimes a robber may kill his victim in an effort to avoid being identified. Also, a criminal may set a building on fire to avoid leaving any clues after a robbery. Protection Security or protection against an attack usually requires anticipation, taking measures to prevent an attack, rapidly responding to an attack, and sometimes making a preemptive attack on suspected threats. Anticipate threats The more wealth you have, the greater the possibility someone will try to take it from you by underhanded or even violent methods. Or they may attempt to do other damage to harm you. Likewise, if there are people who have designated you as an enemy, there is the possibility that they may attempt to harm you or your property. You must anticipate any such threats and take the proper security precautions. Prevention Prevention against an attack includes making it difficult for someone to attack and displaying the willingness to counter-attack. Keeping the doors locked or avoiding walking alone in a bad neighborhood are examples of making it difficult for someone to attack you or your property. An armed security guard will often discourage trouble-makers. Rapid response An alarm system that calls the police or fire department is an example of a rapid response to an attack. It does not stop someone from doing harm or stealing, but it minimizes the damage. Preemptive attack In same cases, a person or organization will attack known threats before they can cause trouble. It is like "nipping the problem in the bud." Summary Security is protection. A person, property or organization may be vulnerable to an attack. Motivations to attack include revenge, money, a cause or even thrills. The types of protection include prevention, response and pre-emptive attacks. Personal Security There are people with evil intentions who may want to harm you or your family. The harm is usually physical injury, but it may also be emotional harm or injuring your reputation. You must be aware of potential threats and take security measures to inhibit such people from achieving their goals. Motivations for attack Knowing the motivations of the criminally minded person who may attack you personally is important in preparing your defenses for such an attack. The reasons another person may want to harm you or your family can be classified as to: • Gain revenge or in anger • Get money • Affect an organization Gain revenge or in anger Some people will try to harm another out of anger or revenge. This is usually a personal matter and may be anger over an argument, revenge for some past event, or jealousy. Get money There are some cases where a criminal is paid to murder or harm another person, but most situations are where a person gets harmed as a part of a robbery. The intention of the robber was to get money, but the person just happened to be in the way or could possibly provide identification. Muggers often pick on people who look clumsy or unaware. They may harm the person as part of the mugging. Affect organization There are times when a person is harmed because he or she is part of a company, organization or country. In this situation, the is to harm the organization by harming one of its members. Examples include a terrorist who wants to kill innocent people or an assassin who wants to kill some important person. Types of harm People need to be protected from others wanting to do them harm. That harm may be physical, emotional, financial, or even damage to the person's reputation. Physical A person may want to cause physical harm, such as beating, injuring, or even killing another person. Many acts of violence occur because of an argument--especially when alcohol or illegal drugs are involved. Other examples of revenge include an estranged husband who wants to get back at his ex-wife and a crazed worker who wants to kill people at his workplace. Physical harm can also be the result of a robbery or for political reasons. Usually, the person who is angry will do the harm, although there are cases where assassins have been hired to do the dirty work. Emotional Someone may wish to harm another person emotionally by threatening loved ones, creating an atmosphere of terror, or other means. Jealousy and revenge are often motives to try to hurt another person emotionally, although there are some people who do this to their spouse or children for no apparent reason but to dominate. Financial A person may want to inflict financial hardship on a rival by destroying or taking property, by ruining a business or job, or other devious means. This is different than a robbery by an unknown assailant. Revenge may be the main reason for such an attack. Reputation Someone may wish to damage your reputation through spreading false rumors and such. There are also strangers who may steal your identity and harm your financial reputation. Security steps The steps to defend against personal attacks are: • Be aware of possible motivations for attacks and the type of people who would attack you • Make it difficult for the person to attack you • Show that you are ready to counter-attack • Sometimes, make a pre-emptive attack to nip it in the bud Physical attack The main problem concerning being personally attacked is not being aware you are in danger. Often people never suspect that someone want to harm them. For most people, it is sufficient to avoid dangerous areas and to have some sort of contingency plan if some madman attacks. A person who knows his life is in danger can plan for his or her personal security. The obvious cases are dignitaries who have armed security guards and who wear bulletproof vests when they go out in public. What are things to do to reduce the risk of being physically attacked? • Be aware if someone is out to get you • Stay away from bad areas or be alert when in them • Be prepared to counter-attack. Emotional attack You must protect what is dear to you and be prepared for such an attack, especially if you have enemies or know of people who wish to harm you. What should you do when emotionally attacked? Do not accept such an attack. Fight back. Reputation attack It is probably the most difficult to know that someone is attacking your reputation, since it may be a very subtle attack. One important thing is to know who your potential enemies are, especially those who are devious and would gain from having your reputation ruined. Financial attack Just like having your reputation tarnished, you need to know who would want to harm your financial situation. Being aware of your rivals is probably the best defense in such a situation. In addition, you must have good security for your property. Summary There are evil people who may want to harm you or your family through physical injury, emotional harm or damaging your reputation. You must be aware of potential threats and take security measures to inhibit such people from achieving their goals. Home Security Home security consists of protection from someone doing damage or setting fire to the house and from someone breaking into the house to steal things. Security against such attacks primarily consists of discouraging damage or robbery and rapid response to an attack. Reasons for attack Knowing the motivations of the criminally minded person who may attack your home is important in preparing your defenses for such an attack. Reasons a person would damage the exterior of a home are usually revenge or thrills. Reasons a person would break into a home to steal are usually for money, but sometimes for thrills. Damaging the home Someone may damage the outside of a home or its property. Examples include breaking a window or driving a car on the lawn. An extreme case is setting fire to the house. Often minor damage is done as vandalism, for the sake of thrills. Sometimes damage is done or fires are set because the person wants revenge on the home owner. Robbing the home The reason a person would break into a house and steal things is usually for financial gain. Hi-fi equipment, TV sets, jewelry and other valuables may be then sold to a "fence" who will then re-sell the property. Sometimes kids will rob a house for the thrill or it. Discouraging criminal There must be several strategies from discouraging someone from attack your home. Damage It is difficult to discourage or prevent someone from vandalizing or doing damage to a home. The best prevention is to have people coming and going and to have lights on at night. Still, that is probably not enough to stop a determined criminal or someone seeking revenge. Robbery Discouraging a person from breaking into a house and stealing things means you must make it as difficult as possible, as well as to make the person aware that the chances of getting caught are high. Lock the doors Obviously, doors and windows should be locked and not easily broken. Activity around the house during the day will discourage a robber. Lights on at night can prevent someone from trying to break in. There have been cases where people were in their back yard in the summertime, and someone came into the house through the unlocked front door and robbed the house. Evidence of dog Evidence of a large dog can discourage robbers from bothering with a house. A visible alarm system can also discourage robbers. Just the sign itself is enough to turn someone away. Tough to stop a pro Of course, the professional or determined robber could beat such defenses, provided the reward was sufficient. The greater your obvious wealth, the more elaborate the defense mechanisms must be. Rapid response An alarm system is supposed to alert the police to make a rapid response to stop a robbery and even catch the crook. Sometimes alert neighbors can also act as an alarm system. Security system Many homes--especially in wealthier neighborhoods--have security systems that will detect intruders and notify a guard agency or the police. Good systems will result in a rapid response that can stop the crooks in their tracks. Windows and doors can be monitored to set off an alarm if improperly opened or broken. Motion detectors and intrusion alarms can be set in the house, in case someone gets by the first line of defense. Some of these systems are battery powered, in case the robber would cut the electrical power. Very large homes may have closed circuit video systems and security guards to monitor the grounds. Fire alarms Some security systems also will notify the fire department if there is a fire on the premises. Summary It is difficult to discourage or stop a person from doing damage to a home, Locks and visible security systems are some things that can discourage robbers. A good security system that provides rapid police response is a good way to prevent criminals from finishing their crime.

Nice work but too lenghty!
Security is comes in the fourth hierarchy in the order of needs: food, shelter, clothing and security.  Everyone who has conquered the first three physiological needs, needs security, but a hungry man is not security conscious because his major pre-occupation is food.  Much as security is important, but it does not take the place of man's physiological needs.  All the same you piece is very commendable.
