English language plays an important role in the development of Nigeria, of all the heritage left behind in Nigeria by the British, at the end of colonian administration non is more important than the English language. It is now the language of government, business, commerce, education, media mass, literature as well as both internal and international communication.
Daddi Crystal (2000:42) assert that: “Language is the most frequently used and most highly developed from of human communication”. English Language is mainly the instrument of communication among the peoples in the world.
The importance of English Language as a second language (L2) cannot be overemphasized. It is the language of education up to the University level; besides, there are some other roles attached to it which shall be fully discussed in this research work.
