NIMC: Why asking N15k for correction of date of birth? Nigerians slam FG

Nigerians have reacted to the N15,000 charges fee for the correction of date of birth by the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC.

Recall the Commission on Wednesday, 6 January 2021, declared that correction of details in the National Identity Number, NIN, would attract varying charges.

However, many Nigerians have taken to their social media to berate the Commission for its alleged extortion and oppression of the poorest of the poor.

A Twiiter user @Gboyejuwon said; "why N15k correction of date of birth? The govt. is jst gud at extorting d citizens for mistake made by the nimc or bank officials during enrollment of BVN. Is NIMC revenue generating agency now? @DrAhmadLawan @ArEgbeCAthe @femigbaja @PresBuhari, @NGRPresident nothing wrong?"

@Prof_aboki said; "Nigerians should mount for a peaceful protest... These rubbish should stop. Meanwhile, in northern Nigeria, this NIN registration is absolutely free & people in Southern Nigeria who saddled with the responsibility are extorting. Shame on them."

@JazzmanVi said; "419 government, the poor old parents or none educated people in the village that don’t even know anything, if they made a mistake in date of birth where would them get 15k to correct it?We can’t boost of any good thing we can get for free in this country, shame on NG government."

@DammyA4 said; "Umnn Nigeria! And NIMC expects artisans, market women, drivers et al to enrol? Meanwhile elsewhere in the north, registration is free for all, including herdsmen from Repubilcs of Niger & Chad just as it happened for inec voters’ card."

@Clkpeatuism said; "Nonsense! What a wicked nation we are in. We did BVN capturing and details' corrections without paying any service charge. This government doesn't want her citizens to survive. They #nimc may intentionally input wrong data for one to come for change of details later."

@tunjiolarinde said; "No disrespect, this nation is inequality personified. This is a national issue that requires government to take responsibility. How many Nigerians can afford this?"

@PeaceDiala said: "Always looking for an avenue to extort Nigerians.Probably, the mistakes could be from NIMC during registration."

@oladayo_francis said; "How many Nigerians can afford 15k for Date of birth correction?Everybody in the affairs of this Nation are sick."
