If I were Jonathan, I would still have gone ahead to remove the fuel subsidy but I would have timed it differently. I would have done it in such a way that reactions will be minimal. After all subsidies on diesel and kerosine were removed last year and nobody asked questions. If I were Jonathan, I would not go into mass transit as one of the palliative measures because experience has shown that such a venture is a wild goose chase. The scheme, which is going to end up in the hands of touts baptized as National Union of Road Transport Workers and Transport Owners will not achieve its purpose. If I were Jonathan, I would employ tact, wisdom and sound judgment and have wild consultation and sensitization before the removal. Nigerians need proof and it is their right.

Nigerians should learn not to indulge in past events that are likely to slow our progress, leaders of this strike should return to negotiation table. Those youths who troop out in the street to cause mayhem should not forget they are Nigerians, that a penny loss from this strike touches all Nigerians one way or the other. Call off this baseless strike, NLC or let NLC leaders set themselves on fire and die for masses instead of poor masses dying for them like we saw since beginning of this nuisance strike.
Permalink Reply by Charles Ugochukwu Okere on January 11, 2012 at 9:33am Martin, you are right. In as much Labour is entitled to do what it best how to do (strike), it is important we allow good sense of judgment to reign. The greatest mistake this administration can make is to revert to N65 price for petrol.
