The Enugu State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the appointment of Ms. Lauretta Aniagolu and Chukwunwike Uzo as members of the Board of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

Enugu APC said although the two appointees hail from Enugu State, their appointment violated the principle of federal character and the anti-corruption war of the Buhari led APC government.

Briefing journalists after a meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) on Monday, Dr. Ben Nwoye, the State Chairman, noted that Ms. Aniagolu hails from the same Eke Town in Udi LGA of the state, the hometown of both Geofrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Osita Okechukwu, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON).

Nwoye equally noted that Uzo who was until his appointment, Director of Planning in FERMA, hails from the same Udi LGA, likewise Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms and her cousin from Ebe Town, Joseph Ilo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner representing Enugu State in the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Dr. Nwoye said concentrating six federal appointments given to Enugu State in Udi Local Government Area alone under Enugu West senatorial zone, leaving out the other two senatorial zones, clearly violates the federal character principle.

“APC totally objects to the appointment of Lauretta Aniagolu. She is not a member of APC. She serves actively in the Economic Advisory Council of the PDP government in Enugu State. She has been championing the development of Centenary City in Enugu State. She funds PDP. She is one of those fighting APC seriously in this state.

“Engineer Uzo is the brother of immediate past Chief of Staff to the Governor in this State, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo. Enugu State does not belong to a particular segment of people in this state. Appointments are not made in a nepotistic manner. This is corruption, which this government is waging war against,” Nwoye said.

He said the constitution of APC forbids its members from taking appointments from PDP government, a development which made many APC members who could have taken jobs from Enugu Government jobless and therefore the spirit of that party constitution should forbid APC government from giving appointments to non-APC members.

He said the appointment of non-APC members even violated the dictates of both the Quran and the Holy Bible that labourers should be allowed to reap from the vineyard, and could encourage disloyalty in the party if not checked.

Nwoye said in the case of Aniagolu, they discovered that her cousin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs influenced her appointment into FERMA board, which was nepotistic and in fact corrupt.

He warned the President to be wary of those recommending the appointments as they were not acting in his interest and that of the party, pointing out that APC cannot take power in Enugu State by concentrating five appointments in two neighbouring communities, Eke and Ebe, in Udi LGA, which has an electoral strength of less than 5,000 voters.

He said Enugu APC would protest the FERMA appointments to its logical conclusion including making correspondences to the President, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives and the National Chairman of APC.
