In a bid to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on learners, a group simply identified as Phoenix-Royal Foundation has launched a 3-month free virtual classes for secondary school students beginning from Monday, June 1 2020.
The group has been making tremendous impacts in the past few years of its establishment. Notable among these were: provision of basic teaching aids to over 150 students in Ogun, provision of social amenities in the form of boreholes, road network for accessibility to rural areas, reaching out to orphanage homes, among others.
In a statement signed, Sunday by the co-founder of the foundation, Ugorji Solomon Wisdom who doubles as director for human resources, events and programmes, the project is aimed at promoting the Sustainable Development Goals 4, which anchors on providing accessible quality education to school children from Jss1-Sss3.
According to him, "The foundation is founded with the vacuum and absence of real-time youth empowerment and interest of picking school age children from 'street-to-classroom' in a bid to granting them opportunity to enjoy the beauty of education at least the basic Education.
"She raises funds to help reduce the number of dropout in the higher institution caused by financial constraints with the Nigeria and beyond."
He continued, "Currently, over 179 students (Jss1-3, SS1-3, then WAEC candidates) have registered from across the country with 36 youth Corps Members under the Education platform registering as volunteers. So, we are launching out with 14 of them who met our set criteria.
"The project is the Foundation's response to COVID-19 in keeping to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Education) especially for the Indigent and those who cannot afford personal home teachers following the COVID-19 pandemic measures."
He also disclosed the group would be reaching out to 5 needy widows and 230 orphans with food stuff, toiletries, gift items, among others on the 25th of December, 2020.
Vanguard learnt the virtual classes would be aired via Facebook live, Free Facebook messenger, and WhatsApp.
