No fewer than thirteen people have been reportedly killed in a gun dual between militia and cattle rustlers in Zamafara state.
The cattle thieves were said to have attacked Fankashi in the Maru district of Zamfara state on Wednesday, May 2.
Speaking on the incident, police spokesman Mohammed Shehu who spoke to AFP said the victims are from both the village vigilantes and the armed men suspected to be cattle thieves.
“Our men recovered 13 dead bodies from the criminal gang and the vigilantes from the village after the fight,” he said.
The village was attacked by the bandits, resulting in the fight with the militia, who were armed with locally made, single-shot muskets.
Shehu said police reinforcements were later sent to the area.
In a previous report, NIGERIA NEWS had reported that armed men suspected to be herdsmen strike again in Adamawa, killed many in a recent attack.
